Who is Moth Mother?

I'm Theresa Jean Tanenbaum (or "Tess"): a neuroqueer, transgender, disabled, polyamorous musician, composer, songwriter, producer, writer, illustrator, game designer, poet, and podcaster located in Central Illinois. I release my music online under the name of Moth Mother.

I've been making music for over 30 years, and working professionally as a composer, musician, sound engineer, and performer since 2002 (although for a portion of that time my musical practice was in service of my academic career as a leading scholar and designer of interactive digital storytelling systems and games) . I've recently begun publishing games, poetry and (soon) books under the imprint of Moth Mother Studios

What is Moth Mother Studios?

Moth Mother Studios is my transmedia production space and publishing imprint. My mission is to uplift and platform the voices of marginalized artists, especially trans, disabled, queer, and BIPOC creators. I can't seem to pick a single medium or discipline to stay in, and the evolving identity of the studio reflects that. Currently I am creating and publishing Music, Podcasts, Audiobooks, TTRPGs, Poetry, Illustrations, and Queer Novels, and I am always excited to expand my skills and interests!

My main facility is an 800+ sq/ft. recording studio in the Midwest, less than 15 minutes outside of Peoria, Illinois. Attached to that facility is a growing fabrication, prototyping, and maker space where I create physical things with wood, electronics, clay, and found objects.
